Find a product from a photo in website chat
Let shoppers attach a photo in website or shareable chat and discuss matching listed products. See no-match handling, channel scope and image privacy limits.
A shopper may know what a product looks like without knowing its name. In website chat or your shareable chat link, an attached photo can give the assistant visual context for discussing products in your supplied catalogue.
The everyday problem
A saved social-media image or a photo of an old item is hard to describe in a search box. Yet a visual resemblance alone cannot establish the exact product, size, authenticity or stock status.
How OctaDezx helps
The assistant analyzes the attached image and uses the business catalogue to discuss possible matches. This is photo-assisted conversation, not a promise of an exhaustive visual search index or a guaranteed exact match.
Upload, compare and clarify
- Attach a clear photo. Use the image attachment control in website chat or the shareable customer chat. A clear view of the item helps more than a crowded scene or a tiny screenshot.
- Discuss your listed products. The assistant receives the image alongside the available business product context. Any recommendation should refer to an item your business has listed, not an invented catalogue entry.
- Clarify a possible match. Ask about visible details, the requested use and the customer's preferences. A similar-looking item may have different dimensions, materials or fit.
- Keep the no-match path honest. If no supported match is available, say so and ask for a clearer photo, a product name or staff help. A documented alternative can be offered without being described as the exact item.
- Use catalogue facts for the next answer. Once an item is identified, explain its saved details and price. Photo analysis does not establish variant stock, manufacturing authenticity or compatibility.
- Hand uncertainty to a person. Give your team the thread when identification is ambiguous or the customer needs a precise guarantee. Visual interpretation should not replace an authorized product check.
A photo with a possible match, or no supported match
Illustrative decision flow. No image here is presented as a real customer upload or a measured matching result.
- 1. Upload. A shopper attaches a clear image in website or shareable chat and asks whether the store sells something like it.
- 2. Compare. The assistant describes the visible item and checks the supplied product context. It should label a similar item as a possible alternative, not a verified exact match.
- 3. Clarify. The shopper confirms the intended type or sends more detail. The assistant uses the listed product facts for size, price and other documented specifications.
- 4. Match or handoff. If no listed product can be supported, say so. Ask staff for help or suggest a documented alternative without pretending it is the photographed item.
Channel and privacy boundaries
- This capability is described for website and shareable customer chat. Do not assume incoming Instagram, Messenger or WhatsApp photos use the same analysis path.
- Matching depends on the product context available to the assistant. It is not an exhaustive catalogue-wide visual index and has no published accuracy guarantee.
- Customer chat uploads are stored in the chat-files bucket and their URLs are retained with messages. The current upload flow uses a public file URL. Do not upload sensitive documents or promise immediate deletion, private-only storage or automatic expiry.
Frequently asked questions
- Does photo search work in Instagram DMs? This page covers website and shareable customer chat. Incoming social-message images are not claimed to use the same product-analysis path.
- What if nothing matches? The assistant should say that no supported match was found. It can ask for more detail, route the thread to staff or discuss a listed alternative without claiming it is identical.
- Do I need product images? Useful descriptions and accurate catalogue facts are essential. Product images help a shopper review a recommendation, but an image attachment does not create a complete visual index of every inventory item.
- What happens to the uploaded photo? The current customer-chat flow uploads it to chat-files storage, creates a public file URL and saves that URL with the message. There is no promise here of automatic deletion or short-term retention. Avoid uploading sensitive personal material.
- Can it guarantee the exact product? No. Visual resemblance is not proof of identity, authenticity, fit or compatibility. Use catalogue facts and staff review for decisions that require certainty.
